What to Eat

If you’re from out of town, we’re going to have a few of your meals covered, but you might want lunch on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and depending how long you’re staying, maybe dinner on Sunday. Here are some of our recommendations for each.

Breakfast

Bluegrass Grill downtown, limited parking, sometimes a wait, fantastic southern fare. The Eggs Benedict will change your life.

Beer Run, in the city but not downtown, parking available, Saturday morning is a menu full of breakfast tacos only. Sunday offers an incredible brunch (which is often very crowded.)

Blue Moon Diner is a classic old-school diner with much better food. This is an historic spot with a lot of local characters and flavor! It’s in the city and there’s street parking and limited parking behind the restaurant.

Tip Top Restaurant is probably the best place to seat a large group, so if that’s what you’re shooting for, that’s where we would go. Standard fare of French toast, eggs, bacon, etc.

Brazos Tacos is our favorite Tex Mex spot and the breakfast tacos are so good! Parking is plentiful, as is seating, especially if outdoor seating is an option. If you like a little adventure, we recommend Brazos, which is downtown, but away from the mall in the Ix Art Park — the Art Park is also very cool and something everyone should see while they are in town.

Lunch

You can go to any of the above restaurants for lunch and be perfectly happy! If you’re looking for lunch on Saturday, your best bet is to park somewhere on Market Street or Water Street (there’s a paid surface lot and parking garages on each), walk a block to the downtown mall and walk along the mall until something looks good. There’s everything from good burger places, to Indian, French, Italian, Mediterranean, Southern (with a capital S), and more.

If you want more of that college-town flavor, you can park somewhere near the University and walk along The Corner for lunch spots like Boylan Heights, Mellow Mushroom, Roots Natural Kitchen, and the infamous White Spot.

Dinner

Again, for our out-of-town guests we have you covered for dinner Friday and Saturday, so this is for anyone extending their stay. We have some totally amazing restaurants. Among them:

  • Lampo
  • Alley Light
  • The Local
  • Tavola
  • Mas Tapas
  • C & O

If you’re traveling with kids, though, these probably aren’t the places we’d recommend for dinner.
